I help us see what's known in our hearts.
Don Senia Murray
photojournalist
Visual storytelling is my thing and, really, always has been. I’ve been telling stories and making award-winning photos for a while now, earning ten CARE Awards, participating in various exhibitions, and receiving Black & White Magazine’s Award for Photojournalism.
College included studying photography, but my “practical side” took hold, so I got a B.S. Marketing and MBA, which have been useful and made my parents happy. My mother also boasts about my serving as a board member on local chapters of the American Society of Media Photographers, Art Directors Club, Irish Network and CU Alumni Association.
My clients come in all shapes and sizes, from individuals to corporate giants. Some of the biggies using my work are Walmart, United Airlines, KeyBank, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated and People.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
The photography that’s influenced me most are the works of Lewis Hine, Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans, Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Eugene Smith and Bruce Davidson. The common thread among them, in my opinion, is the importance they placed on their work having a constructive impact.
I’ve always been drawn to photography as a form of communication, and my goal is to capture images that really make us stop and think about things. Empathy, awareness, anticipation, and intuition all play into this. I guess I'd say that I'm an idiosyncratic mix of photojournalist and artist.
When my editor called and asked if I'd be interested in doing a story on the Dalai Lama, I responded, "Are you (expletive) kidding, of course I am!" After all, how often are you asked to spend three days with a world political and spiritual leader, bestselling author, and Nobel Laureate?
